Date calculator (days between dates, days from a date)

Count the days between two dates, with or without the start date. You can also find the date a given number of days after or before another date.

Days between two dates

Date after or before a number of days

How to use

  1. Choose a start date and an end date to see the number of days between them. "Today" fills in today's date.
  2. Tick "Include the start date" if your count should include the first day, as for event days or some contract periods.
  3. Under "Date after or before a number of days", enter a base date and a number of days to see the resulting date and weekday.

Notes and limits

  • Weekends and public holidays are not excluded; every calendar day is counted.
  • Dates use the Gregorian calendar, also for dates before its introduction in 1582.
  • Legal or contractual deadlines may follow special rules (for example when the last day falls on a holiday). Check the rules that apply to you.

How it works

The number of days is end date − start date, plus 1 if you include the start date. The same date on both sides gives 0 days (1 day when the start date is included).

Leap years (divisible by 4, except years divisible by 100 but not by 400) are handled, so February 29 is counted correctly.

Years, months and days are found by stepping forward whole months from the start date as far as possible without passing the end date, then counting the remaining days. One month after January 31 is the last day of February.

FAQ

What does "include the start date" mean?

From April 1 to April 3 is 2 days if you do not count the start date and 3 days if you do. Hotel nights use the first method; event days usually use the second.

What date is 100 days from today?

Under "Date after or before a number of days", press "Today" for the base date and enter 100. The date and weekday are shown right away.

I entered an end date before the start date.

The tool swaps the two dates automatically and shows the number of days between them, with a note.
