How to use

  1. Choose the currency (it sets the decimals and rounding units), then enter the bill amount and the number of people.
  2. Pick a tip: 10, 15, 18, 20 or 25%, "Custom" for any percent, or "No tip".
  3. Choose the amount to round each share to, such as 1 or 0.01.
  4. You get the tip, the total with tip and each share (bill part and tip part), plus two options: "Organizer covers the remainder" (with how much more the organizer pays) and "Everyone rounds up" (with what is left over). Use "Copy result" to paste it into a chat.

Notes and limits

  • Everyone pays the same share. Different amounts per person (for example by what each person ordered) are not supported.
  • The tip is a percentage of the bill amount you enter. Pre-tax tipping and sales tax are not calculated separately; enter the amount you want the tip based on.
  • The currency only sets decimals, rounding units and symbols; nothing is converted. Currencies without decimals such as JPY and KRW take whole numbers, others up to two decimal places. People can be 1 to 1000, and the tip 0 to 100%.

How it works

Tip = bill × tip % ÷ 100, rounded half up to the currency's minor unit (0.01 for USD, 1 for JPY). The bill plus the tip is the total that is split.

"Organizer covers the remainder": each share is rounded down to the chosen unit and the organizer pays the rest. Organizer = total − share × (people − 1); the difference from the others is shown.

"Everyone rounds up": each share is rounded up to the chosen unit, and everyone pays the same. The amount collected above the total is shown as left over.

Calculations are done in hundredths, so amounts with cents add up exactly.
